Dympol was one of the launch partners for FanBridge’s Partner Ecosystem and they offer a great way to focus one’s positive energies for 2012. Dympol provides a service called Charitable Checkout which connects bands (and other brands) to charities and a sponsoring organization via a widget that is integrated into the ecommerce process or social media settings. It’s one simple way for musicians to do good by leveraging the activities they already do and the audience they’re already building.

Adding Dympol to FanBridge

Though Dympol’s Charitable Checkout is not music-specific it was founded by Bad Religion’s Jay Ziskrout and has been integrated into such artist support platforms as Hypebot sponsor FanBridge, The Orchard and BandFarm. It’s also begun operating in Spanish.

Though there are variations, the basic concept of Charitable Checkout is that, in the process of making a purchase from a band, fans will be presented with an opportunity to support a charitable cause identified by the band. The support is typically in the form of a gift or discount purchase offer sponsored by a third party advertiser.

The above video gives a clear look at the process for bands using Dympol via FanBridge on Facebook. It’s set up to be as painless as possible with all options from charity to sponsor available as choices. One can develop more specific campaigns with Dympol but being able to easily connect multiple parties is part of the basic service’s appeal.

Do you know of other simple ways for bands to do good? Though I’m focused on web topics, other suggestions are also well worth sharing.

Celebrity Cause Marketing Just Got Easier

‘Charitable Checkout’ Rolls Out to FanBridge & The Orchard

Created by founding Bad Religion drummer, Jay B. Ziskrout, Dympol’s celebrated Charitable Checkout is a performance-based cause marketing platform that lets fans give to celebrity-endorsed charities and get rewarded with brand-sponsored discounts and public thanks from their heroes on social networks.

Since it’s release in May, influential people and organizations in music, sports and entertainment have had the opportunity to work with Dympol to leverage the power of Charitable Checkout. However, last week’s integration of Charitable Checkout into FanBridge‘s new partner ecosystem marks a new phase in Dympol’s growth, and makes the platform accessible to a much larger universe of Influencers.
FanBridge clients can now quickly assemble custom versions of Charitable Checkout and publish them on their Facebook pages. They can even select from a pre-matched list of brand sponsors.

Jason Small, FanBridge Director of Strategic Partnerships commented, “FanBridge is happy to have Dympol in the initial launch of our partner ecosystem. We see Dympol’s Charitable Checkout offering as a unique way to generate money for worthy causes that simultaneously creates a win for the fans, the brands, and the Influencers.”

The first music artists to take advantage of the new functionality include New Zealand’s groove masters Sola Rosa who kick off their US tour on November 29th [Visit http://on.fb.me/tJM9iP] and Tatiana Kochkareva, who’s new album “Infinity” hits in the USA on December 1st [Visit: http://on.fb.me/vcRosp].

In the wake of this major launch, Dympol has just signed an agreement to provide similar functionality to the thousands of music artist and record label clients of The Orchard’s Marketplace.

Jaclyn Ranere, The Orchard VP, Product Marketing said, “Dympol lets our clients choose the charitable organizations to feature, makes it super simple for fans to donate and, if the warm and fuzzy feeling of giving back isn’t enough, the fans also receive a reward from the artist and/or sponsor. We’re excited to offer Dympol in The Orchard’s Marketplace.” Dympol’s integration into The Orchard Marketplace is expected to be complete in time for the holidays.

Dympol Founder and CEO Jay Ziskrout commented, “We are genuinely excited to be partnering with such quality organizations as FanBridge and The Orchard. We are also thrilled to be working with so many cool brand advertisers who are providing discounts and coupons to those followers that give to celebrity-endorsed causes.”

Current Dympol advertisers include Hurley (www.hurley.com), Ultimate Ears (www.ultimatears.com), Orisue Clothing (www.orisue.com), Heyday Footwear (www.heydayfootwear.com), and Lark Technology (www.lark.com).

Richard Vaughn, Marketing Director of Orisue added, “As a brand, to be able to accomplish our need to advertise and generate awareness, it’s great that we have the opportunity to be giving back in the same stroke.”

Darin Hager, Heyday Footwear’s Chief Everything Officer exclaimed, “Our partnership with Dympol allows us to leverage the hottest musicians’ fan bases and expose them to a taste of Heyday. When you add the good karma of contributing to the artists’ favorite charities, it becomes a truly special partnership.”

Ziskrout continued, “This is just the beginning. We have several other major deals of this type in the works with more announcements coming soon. For the moment, I’ll share that in just a few weeks our Co-Founder Tammo Mueller and his technical team will be making it easier for even more people to participate: In December, Dympol will launch a Charitable Checkout Creation App that will be open to the public. Anyone with a website, blog or Facebook Fan Page will be able to create their own Charitable Checkout widget in minutes.

Dympol enables charitable donations at the online checkout stand

Dympol hopes it can catch you at your next checkout for online purchases. The company has created a way to let charities and businesses deliver a final pitch to upsell you to a donation just before you pay for something online.

It’s another example of physical marketing — like all the goods that you can purchase at the checkout stand in a supermarket — being applied to the online market. Dympol calls it “Charitable Checkout,” a service that makes it easy to raise money for charitable causes during online checkout.

Upselling is a pretty old technique in e-commerce checkouts. But Dympol hopes to spice it up by getting celebrities who you know and like to make a personal pitch for you to donate to a cause. The company uses its Dympol E-Commerce Sponsorship Platform to deliver coupon offers and other pitches during online checkout.

The company was founded by Jay Ziskrout, chief executive, and co-founder of the band Bad Religion.

“What we are doing is connecting brands with target consumers as they are buying personally meaningful things and when they are in a mood to spend money,” Ziskrout said in an interview.

The band Switchfoot will use the Charitable Checkout during checkouts for its annual Bro-Am Festival. The Hurley division of Nike has committed to provide more than $100,000 in gift card incentives, and another major sponsor may join shortly.

Combining the charitable pitch with celebrities or known brands that are relevant to the consumer is a good approach, since brands spend about a third of all marketing dollars on getting people to like them. Brands tend to plaster brand imagery around everything people care about so the brand image benefits by association.

But Dympol says its e-commerce platform is a superior approach that combines the relevance of something like Google AdWords with the engagement of branded entertainment and the accountability of performance marketing. It catches users as they are ready to spend money by delivering a “personally meaningful” connection with someone, like a celebrity making a direct pitch for a charity. Conversion rates (the percentage of people who accept the offer to donate) can be as high as 20 percent, far above the usual upsell benchmarks.

With Charitable Checkout, a celebrity can appear in a video, offering to match donations made by their fans. When fans give, they can get brand-sponsored gift cards of equal or greater value to the donation. Social components and a Facebook app complete the process, allowing customers to share their donations. Dympol thinks it will work better because its e-commerce offers are closely tied to metrics.

Besides offering Charitable Checkout, Dympol also offers something it calls Cheaper Checkout. There, brands can offer a coupon at checkout. Advertisers pay for the ad when users accept the discount offer. The Dympol platform can also be inserted in non-e-commerce systems, such as a Facebook page or a blog.

The company has four employees and was founded in 2008. Dympol competes with other branded advertising as well as with performance marketing firms such as TrialPay. Dympol has raised $400,000 in seed funding from Jeffrey Ubben, chief executive of Value Act Capital and former chairman of Martha Stewart Omnimedia. Other investors include company principals and advisors.

More deals are in the pipeline with talent agencies, management companies, and broadcast networks. That will give Dympol access to rosters of music artists, athletes, and personalities. The company is currently raising a new round of funding.

Switchfoot, Red Light and Hurley Choose Dympol

App Tapped to Create Virtuous Circle Around Switchfoot Bro-Am Events

Dympol has teamed up with multi-platinum rock act Switchfoot; Red Light Management; and surf, skate, and music lifestyle apparel brand Hurley to generate engagement and goodwill while raising money for StandUp For Kids, a volunteer outreach organization dedicated to helping at-risk youth. Switchfoot Bro-Am is an annual weekend of activities that benefit San Diego area chapters of StandUp For Kids and includes a free surf contest/beach concert.

Fans purchasing tickets to the exclusive June 16 Auction Night Soiree are invited by Dympol’s Charitable Checkout application to add a donation for StandUp For Kids to the shopping cart. In return for giving, fans get exclusive unreleased (Switchfoot side-project) Fiction Family downloads and digital gift cards from Hurley. Fans also get publicly thanked by the band on their Facebook walls. Lead event sponsor Hurley committed over $100,000 worth of gift card incentives for the campaign. Fans can buy tickets to the Auction Night Soiree and participate in Charitable Checkout at the Switchfoot Bro-Am website: http://www.switchfoot.com/switchfoot/c/bro-am.

Concurrently, Switchfoot, Hurley and several other participants have deployed instances of the Facebook version of the Charitable Checkout app on their respective pages. So, even though the majority of Switchfoot’s 1.4 million fans won’t be able to travel to Southern California to attend the festivities, they will be able to participate, connecting with the band and Hurley using Charitable Checkout on Facebook: http://on.fb.me/Switchfoot-GiveNGet.

During the first three weeks of activity, over 6% of users that found the app on Facebook, and almost 20% of fans that encountered the app during checkout, made a donation and activated their Hurley gift cards. Moreover, an estimated total of over 100,000 likes, comments, posts, and tweets have mentioned Hurley, successfully speaking directly to the brand’s target audience in a meaningful, memorable and measureable way:

For example, Facebook user Richmond V. commented, “Pretty freakin cool of Hurley to team up with you guys like that.” and Kim G. proclaimed, “I just purchased my tickets for the Belly Up after party and was able to donate some extra [money] to an AWESOME cause…it was simple and I got a gift card too!“

Charitable Checkout transforms e-commerce into an opportunity for artists, and other influential people and organizations to partner with fans and brands to raise money for worthy causes while tangibly generating goodwill and sales. Give & Get: When fans give, they get gift cards of equal (or greater) value from brand sponsors and/or other incentives from influencers. The application also enables influencers to dynamically match donations made by fans out of the proceeds of online sales.

Dympol Founder and CEO Jay B. Ziskrout commented, “We are thrilled to be working with people and organizations of the caliber of Switchfoot, Bro-Am, Red Light Management, Hurley, Bandfarm, Front Gate, and Belly Up. I believe that we are well on our way to creating a virtuous circle that sustainably benefits StandUp For Kids, Hurley, Switchfoot and their fans.”

Charitable Checkout is built on Dympol’s E-Commerce Sponsorship platform. The platform powers applications that deliver the relevance of AdWords, the engagement of branded entertainment and the accountability of performance marketing. It enables brand advertising campaigns that make good things happen for (or with) potential customers in the act of spending money on personally meaningful things like content, events and charitable giving. In addition to Charitable Checkout, Dympol also powers Cheaper Checkout, an application that delivers brand-sponsored discounts during checkout directly to targeted customers of partner e-commerce sites and applications.

About Hurley

“Hurley is a company based on inclusion,” says chairman and founder Bob Hurley. This philosophy applied to Bob Hurley’s early years as a Huntington Beach shaper, working with friends alongside the world’s best athletes to make a better surfboard. It applied to the company’s launch in 1999, when Hurley decided to start a brand that was a true microphone for youth. In 2002, Hurley was acquired by Nike, the largest and most influential sporting brand in the world. Inclusion remains a guiding principle of the company today, where innovative products like Phantom Boardshorts and game-changing events like the US Open of Surfing continue to redefine what is possible in our world. Hurley headquarters are in Costa Mesa, CA with international offices in Sydney, Tokyo, Barcelona and Bali.
